Personal Perspective

How personal should a site get? How much of one’s self should be revealed? For the most part I play it safe, like I do in much of my life, only choosing to write only about the surface of my world. Most, if not all my posts, are about games and gadgets with the sporadic few touching on other innocuous subjects like poetry and homeownership. The sad part is that this space is a direct reflection of my meat-space persona.

Discretion is the excuse I typically rely on, though I am thinking at the moment that I am less discrete and more obtuse. The problem with this is that when something surfaces, a family drama or an internal struggle, I am lost for ways to express it to those around me. Language will be used to obscure or redirect. To distance myself I will engage in meta-discussion much like this one which often leaves my friends and loved ones feeling cold. So I spend my time as landscaper of sorts building intricate conversational walkways leading to calming emotional vistas all with the explicit purpose of keeping the full view of myself from being revealed.

I am being more disingenuous than discrete. Though, it is unlikely that this post will lead to a trend of personally revealing posts or even a higher state of actualization. It is more likely that I will reflect on it and find more inventive ways to disengage from more meaningful emotional connections. Or not.
