I am the City Manager of Tuttle, Oklahoma.
Wow.
File this under: Bizarre. Firefox Bug 330884 brings us this sordid tale:
Basically, we share one computer but under separate Windows XP user accounts. We both use Mozilla Firefox — well, he used to use it more than I do but now we don’t really use it. The privacy flaw is this: when he went to log-in under his dating sites (jdate.com, swinglifestyle.com, adultfriendfinder.com, etc.), Mozilla promptly asks whether or not he’d like Firefox to save the passwords for him. He chose never, obviously. However, when he logged off his user account, and I logged onto my Windows XP account X amount of days later…I went into the Password Manager to change the saved password option from Never to Always and that’s when I saw all these other sites that had been selected as “Never Save Password.” Of course, those were sites I had never visited or could ever dream of visiting.
The moral of the story is you should use a different application for extra-marital browsing. Maybe something light like K-Meleon or just running Firefox from a thumb drive? Just a thought.
And yes, I do know that this is not a valid bug, she screwed up the set up of user accounts under XP.

I got to thinking last night how little time the day really holds for me. Even though I try to maximize it as much as possible there seems to be too little time to tackle projects or partake in hobbies like I used to. The trouble could be that I have too much on my plate, a common complaint of mine as of late, or it could be that I am romanticizing a time where I felt I had endless time. Then again when I did I had no bills, lived at home with my parents, worked a decent job, and had no responsibilities so maybe I’m just pining for those days.
What prompted this train of thought was my reaction to reading the GDC news about Nintendo. I’m excited about the revolution for sure but the reality is that I haven’t picked up a controller in some three months. I have a stack of unfinished and even unplayed games vying for my attention so why would I add another console into the mix? Beyond the drive of a collector I’m too wrapped up in writing music reviews, maintaining this website, writing a campaign, staying on top of my reading list, as well as the myriad other tasks associated with the house. This does not begin to scratch the surface of the obligations related family and friends. I’m just trying to find a comfortable spot in the maelstrom.
Chucking a wrench in was Management and her, shall we say, strong assertion that she wants to start a family. Now. As in begin the process of propagation immediately. Mind you, I subscribe to the school of though that the best part of children is making them but where do I fit this in? My priorities are getting re-aligned in an extreme fashion. Nothing, at this point, has moved beyond negotiation or the “Yes, Dear” phase but the thought of it certainly has me chewing my bottom lip out of concern.
Since diurnal extension is unlikely something is going to have to give and it is likely going to be video games. However, I do hold out the hope that if we start a family my sleepless nights could be spent cradling a fussy child whilst wearing noise canceling headphones and working through Elderscrolls on the 360 or Animal Crossing on the Revolution. It could be said that I am thirty-two working on fifteen but I think that Management would rather not be a single parent of a newborn and a petulant teenager.
So, I suppose it is time to take stock and figure out what should take precedence. Video games for certain are hitting the back burner but I need to find a little more balance between my websites and my home life as it is very likely I’ll actually need to be swinging a hammer and working a paintbrush to get the house in order for a non-four legged occupant. Maybe I can put my PM skills to use here, if anything the documentation will delay the project by at least 6 weeks and in that time I might get some more game play in or finish a couple more books. Management approval pending of course.
Since the arrival of Candied Pop I haven’t posted anything about music here so here is a quick not pointing you to Candied Pop to read about PLOrk, the Princeton Laptop Orchestra (yes, I know, self-linking is the eight deadly sin).
Last night was the kick off for my campaign and I was pretty pleased with how things went, though I had forgotten that although I may put in hours of preparation it is quite possible that the players won’t make it to the first decision junction. That is quite alright with me as it will give me the much needed time for fine tuning and polishing, as well as expanding the NPCs and their relationships to the overall narrative arc. Plus, with this group, I have the luxury of letting them write the plot as they are a willful and playful bunch that romp about the game world like so many frat boys drifting on nitrous-oxide.
On my to-do list for this week is to flesh out the next sets of possible adventures as well as clarify some of the plot for myself. As an extremely fuzzy thinker–you wouldn’t know that by my anal-retentive habits of color coding maps and keeping my game notes in a three-ring binder with labeled tabs– I find it necessary to codify the story arc to some degree, if I don’t my overactive imagination will keep adding and expanding it until it collapses under its own weight.
Encounters are the next thing I want to look at as either my CR selection is off or my rolling is atrocious–likely both– because I was left with the feeling that the party went through my monsters like a chainsaw through butter on a hot August afternoon. I’m going to take the time to get familiar with leveling up the templates and ponder some new combat tactics such as multiple ambushes and intra-combat traps. I would like to make the party sweat.
So I have the first six episodes of The IT Crowd but they are AVIs and Management wants to watch them on the TV rather than the laptop. Need I sweat it? Nope.
ffmpeg -i mymovie.avi -target ntsc-vcd mymovie.mpg
Then I burn three to a CD using K3B’s VCD creator. Pie.
