Seeing as I cannot go more than a week or so without playing around in the guts of this site I’m trying out another plugin. This one is to assist in tagging up my posts, hopefully to yield better Technorati results as well as give another way to view the content on the site.
UTW, as plugins go, appears to be on steroids with a million ways to Monday to tweak and configure. I’ve only had it installed for a whole 3 hours but have managed not to kill the site so I’ll chalk that up to being a success thus far. I’m hoping that it works out well because I would like to see tags become a sort of sub-category, sort of loose and fast. If it works out I’ll likely carry it over to Candied Pop as I am looking for a more flexible system of tagging our posts over there.
Over the next couple of weeks the tag list should grow and then I should be able to implement one of those nifty Tag Clouds in the side bar. All the cool people are doing it and at the end of the day don’t we all just want to be cool? I thought so.

Just curious: did that tag icon come w/ the theme?
I found myself browsing wp-plugins.net for about an hour yesterday (as is evidenced by a couple del.icio.us links). I’d like to use one of the Lightbox plug-ins so my blog wouldn’t have to be so darned wide. Ultimately, I’d like to combine lightbox and an ajax comments plug-in (that expands the comments in a div on the main page) so you’d never have to navigate unless looking in the archives.
I’ve actually already installed a second copy of Wordpress so I’d be able to fool around w/ themes & plug-ins without catching flack from visitors. I’m hooked!
Yeah, it is part of the k2 theme. In the loop is the following:
Which yields those tasty little icons.
I’m working on re-doing Candied Pop with K2 because of it’s built in support for a number of plugins. Also, we are looking at going ad-free since the whole blog-whore thing isn’t that much fun and we’d like to use the real estate for something more useful.
I’m definitely envious of K2. I wouldn’t say the ads on Candied Pop detract from the site at all, but a little extra real estate is never a bad thing.
K2 is wicked flexible and my favorite thing is how you can spec your own sub CSS templates to tweak the whole site. Very nice.
Well, I want to beautify the site and the ads just aren’t worth what they are paying ($2/month) so I figure we’ll grab the real estate and have some fun. I would like to mod K2 to be almost like a magazine format with an emphasis on the horizontal space. A banner on top then the latest post using 3/4 of the space and a nav at 1/4, below that the last 5 posts running the full space across and then below that RSS feeds and what not. Definitely going to tax my meager CSS skills.
I like the idea. Definitely sounds like a cool layout, but could be tough to execute. Kind of like a reverse of The Big Noob (found it in some list of pretty blogs that I’m sure you saw floating around).
Ah yes! Very much like the reverse of that. It is likely going to be a taxing design and I’ll probably have several incarnations before I get there as my CSS-fu is weak. To kick things off I’ll probably slap K2 around to get it to look and feel a little more like Candied Pop and less like Kubrick.
