Doing Dad Things…

Wednesday, November 1st, 2006

Management pointed to an article in one of the many baby magazines that she gets about “The Changes You’ll See In Hubby” and, beyond its saccharine use of shorthand like DH (Dear Hubby), a couple of things were right on target.

He’ll become very interested in home projects like painting the baby’s room, assembling furniture, and generally trying to fix the place up before your baby arrives.

Damn. They found me out. Sure, the obvious thing is that I have to get the room ready; I cannot really expect her to sleep in a nest of CAT5 surrounded by boxes from when we first moved in together some seven years ago. However, I seem to really be into choosing the right brushes and rollers as well as becoming quite a connoisseur of KILZ. It still doesn’t quite compare to fine tuning a web server but it serves to make me feel more like a manly man, especially when I can whip out my 24V cordless drill.

You’ll find him becoming very protective of both you and the baby’s safety.

I like to think that I am the concerned type that thinks of his family’s well being but maybe my hobby of explosives derived from household products doesn’t show that too well. Seriously, though, this is right on target as I have developed some bizarre OCD symptoms including needing to lock the door to the house when taking out the trash, double checking her seatbelt before we pull out of the driveway, and insisting on doing anything that might remotely be considered strenuous like making a shopping list.

Predictable should be my middle name, especially when my recent life is easily summed up in a 500 word fluff piece.
