Strapped and then some.

Our financial footing is shaky at best, we pay all of our bills on time and usually have a little left over to tuck in the bank or to treat ourselves to something nice but we do not have vast stacks of cash lining our dresser. So the bills are mounting, riding closely on the haggard heels of our last round of major expenses, namely the car repairs, student loans, and mortgage. I have yet to talk to the claims adjuster yet but the word deductible is being bandied about by the oil and tree crews. As if there is anything at the moment to deduct.

The tree removal will cost $506.50, of which I had to put down $203.50 and I’m shuddering to think what the oil service will cost. At the moment they are installing a temporary tank, moving the existing oil over, removing the old tank, and then they will be pouring a concrete pad and installing the new tank. Cash money.

My wallet feels much like this poor little oil tank, tired and dented.

Kraaang!

And then, leaves.

So, we originally put off visiting my sister because of temporary crushing poverty arising from a flurry of unplanned automotive repairs. Now, I am thinking that it was so we could be home when our home came under an arboreal assault.

Tree vs Tank

Tree vs Tank, part deux

Tree 1, Tank 0

There you have it, one large branch twisted itself around the trunk like a swing dancer, bouncing off the oil tank, finally coming to rest much like it was when it was attached to the tree only much lower.

West Nile Watch 2005

Unlike Pokemon try not to catch it, if you can! CNN has a chart here and thankfully Connecticut has had only one human positive lab case this season. However, given the mosquito problem in our yard I’m inclined to believe that the wife and I are just rolling the dice on it. I really should get working on those bat houses though. Lazy is me.

Mowing
…is not struggling a 22″ deck, non-self-propelled, 8 year old lawn mower up a slight hill covered in various strains of grasses all over the excessive height of 2 feet that wrap about the blades causing the motor to stall every 45 seconds. But, hey, thanks to my brother-in-law for the free mower (tiger not included)!

The Cost Of A Day

Add it up…

  • 07:47 AM — $108.89 — Home Depot
  • 08:28 AM — $209.88 — Lowe’s
  • 10:44 AM — $10.26 — True Value
  • 07:00 PM — $30.00 — Skooters

On time and under budget.

Spending all day with my dad and brother-in-law was worth every penny; getting the shed was just a bonus.

Never did like Erector Sets as a kid.
