Last week Gabriella was laid up with a cold. A miserable cold that had the little girl suffering from a stuffy head, runny nose, and persistent post-nasal drip cough. A cold that she eventually passed on to us and as if we did not have enough on our plate Mother Nature left us a nice sheet of ice to chip off the driveway while we both coughed and sneezed and ran fevers. Last night, Gabi was so uncomfortable she demanded to sleep with Management, no amount of bribes or deal sweeteners would get her to sleep in her crib nor stay in my arms. So here we both are, on the cusp of wellness only to find ourselves scrabbling for a foothold on health as we slide backwards due to a complete and total lack of sleep.

The top picture is GE’s new Virtual 4D Scan technology, which this picture does little justice. It is simply amazing to see our baby as if she was in our arms. The bottom picture is a traditional ultrasound they provided for contrast; makes her look like a Gloworm but I love her all the same.
Feministe has a great write up about how NARAL and Planned Parenthood are not really serving those that they say they are by continuing to back Joe Lieberman. I have no great love for Lieberman but my level of indignation has risen to new heights in finding out that NARAL and Planned Parenthood back his draconian and backwards view of woman’s rights and health issues.
Just adding to the pile of hate: Healthcare Bill Seeks to Preempt State Laws (Los Angeles Times). Feministe sums up the key points nicely:
— Eliminate state requirements for insurance coverage for breast, cervical, colorectal, and prostate cancer screenings; well-child care and immunizations; prescription contraception; emergency services; mental health care; diabetes supplies and education; and many other critical health services.
— Deny states the right to regulate the insurance industry to ensure that consumers’ needs are met.
— Put insurance companies, not health professionals, in charge of your health care.
— Raise insurance premiums, making health care unaffordable for those who need it most: women, the sick, and the elderly, whose health care costs are usually higher.
— Fail to address the problem of rising health care costs, which is what really plagues struggling employers.
Yet again I’m left asking myself why the fuck I keep voting. I believe in the notion that it is a privilege and a duty but for fuck’s sake it is NOT a representative system unless of course you are some bloated corporation looking to hoard even more resources for yourself.
Shitty Monday morning.
