Sometimes accidents are happy. In this shot I was trying to do some portraits of Gabi while she was reading a book and at the moment I clicked the shutter one of our dogs bumped my arm send the camera up to the left with the result being largely what you see. A fair amount of post-work was needed to pull in some of the colors that washed out from the lens flare as the camera was at just the right angle to wash out nearly all the colors. The only cropping I did was to eliminate a black bar across the top and an odd black blob near the bottom left corner.
What I like about the picture are the soft textures, like her hair which bleeds from individual strands into a mass of white and yellow, and the washed out colors in the background. However, I still have plenty to learn as I cannot seem to eliminate the green which appears along side some of the yellow in her hair. No matter what I try to do I cannot seem to eliminate it without causing problems somewhere else in the picture. I’m guessing that I need to learn something about masking but the concept seems to be eluding my grasp how to perform the task in Gimp but it is possible that I am on the wrong track.
